Let’s do twelve days of fun.

Today. Take a Holiday Light Tour.

Get in the car with some hot cocoa (not too hot in case dad takes a corner too fast) in your PJ’s, rock out to your favorite holiday music & drive around and check out the decorated houses. We do this every year and love it. Santa Barbara has trolley tours that you can take, but we are never organized enough to book one of these before they sell out. So, we just do it ourselves! This year Peanuts Maternity Shop created a map of the best houses to check out. Here is the link if you are local. Otherwise, do a Google search for your town and Christmas lights and find your own map. So much fun.

kiva.org. give as little as $25 and help create opportunity around the world.

we love this organization. you can hand pick who you give to and the best part is it is a loan, so that $25 you loan, once repaid can be loaned and loaned and loaned again for as long as you choose. my family has been giving with the same $100 for a few years now.

give of your time to a local soup kitchen. there are many volunteer opportunities.

if you are local in santa barbara, visit the organic soup kitchen’s site to see the ways you can help.

give presents! there are many local organizations that do “adopt a family” programs at christmas time. contact the salvation army, local food bank or any other well known not for profit organization in town and find out how you can adopt a family or individual to provide presents or a holiday dinner that they might not otherwise have.

Today. Create perfect gifts for anyone on your list.

Everyone knows we LOVE a good gift basket over here, but these creative and fun creations from Kevin Sharkey of Martha Stewart are so perfect. We are going to do a version of this with a game, book, hot cocoa, & candy canes all packaged together for a fun family nite for some family friend’s gifts. Just love gifts that are useful, purposeful & encourage positive time together.

Last week of school before the break, pressure is on to provide some holiday entertainment.

So, let’s do twelve days of fun.

Today. Make Your Own Ornaments

What You Need.

glass (or plastic) empty ornaments from the craft store, fake snow, tiny bottle brush trees, or other fun and sparkly crafty doo dads that can fit through the opening of the ornament.

What You Do.

Take the silver part off of the ornament. Put a small amount of hot glue on the item that you are wanting to put in your ornament. Use tweezer to put the item down in the ball. If you are doing something sparkly and larger like the gold item shown, just fold it up so it fits through the hole and then let it open up once inside. Adjust with your tweezers, if you would like. Add snow if desired. I also saw some made with sand and glitter, so pretty also! Put the lid back on and tie a small ribbon or piece of twine to the ornament. Hang it on the tree or give it away or make two and do both!

Last week of school before the break, pressure is on to provide some holiday entertainment. So, let’s do twelve days of fun.

Today. Create Holiday Cards

Gather up some supplies. Stamps, markers, glitter, scrapbook paper, old gift wrap, last year’s gift tags or cards, ribbon etc. Put the kids at a table (cover it if it is not shabby chic, emphasis on shabby like mine) & let them go crazy. The more glue and glitter the better. Deliver their creations to a local convalescent home or hospital. One of our local convalescent homes had 15 residents without family in town. A sweet holiday card surprise will most likely be adored. Have fun!

Last week of school before the break, pressure is on to provide some holiday entertainment. So, let’s do twelve days of fun.

Today. Making your own snow globe.

What you need.

Mason Jars of Any Size (you can get at craft store or wash and take off labels from marinara sauce, preserves etc), Fake Snow, Plastic Deer, Bottlebrush Trees, Birds, any fun winter’y knick knack from the craft store.

What you do.

Make sure your jar is clean and dry. Take off the lid. Hot glue (adult should do this part) the trees, deer, birds or whatever you want in your winter scene to the inside part of the lid. Pour about an inch or less of the fake snow into the mason jar. When the glued items have dried, put them on the jar and screw the lid shut. Flip it over and let the snow fall.
